We recently wrapped up something pretty special in sunny Clacton-on-Sea. This bungalow got the upgrade of a lifetime with a stunning solid roof conservatory extension, and we can’t stop talking about it. What’s more, it’s our very first project featuring the highly innovative Hup! Walling system by Ultraframe. And honestly? It’s a total game-changer.
This beautiful, large gable extension isn’t just your average conservatory upgrade. Featuring two sleek sets of aluminium Korniche bifold doors, the space has been designed to open up completely to the garden. The vaulted ceiling is pitched perfectly to complement the bungalow's roofline, creating a sense of grandeur while maintaining harmony with the home’s architecture. Adding to the bright, airy feel are large, full-length glass panels that flood the space with natural light. The result? A room that feels open, inviting, and utterly transformed.
The bungalow’s previous conservatory had seen better days. Like many older conservatories, it came with unbearable extremes of temperature—far too hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. It had sadly turned into that one room no one really used, except for the occasional summer evening.
Working with the homeowners, we saw an opportunity to give their space a new lease of life. Enter the Hup! Walling system, a state-of-the-art design from Ultraframe. Not only does it meet (and exceed) all building regulations, but it’s also five times more energy-efficient than the average UK home. Yes, you read that right.
Once the old structure was carefully dismantled, we got to work on the new foundations, expanding the footprint to create a larger, more practical space. The addition of full-height Hup! walls on both sides brought bonus privacy from neighbouring homes, while also providing sturdy internal walls ideal for fixing TVs and cabinets. To give the front a polished, modern touch, we added a large, full-height column perfectly paired with the bifold doors for clean, contemporary lines.
The Ultraroof insulation system makes this space a showstopper. Coupled with two oversized, self-cleaning Ambi Blue Sunshade glass panels, the roof provides exceptional thermal efficiency as well as a dash of understated elegance. It’s not just a room; it’s a luxurious year-round retreat.
Every detail of this extension was designed with comfort and style in mind. Inside, the space is fully plastered for a sleek finish, complete with downlighters and electrical sockets thoughtfully placed for everyday practicality. Moving outside, K-Rend lightweight render gives the exterior a clean and modern aesthetic. We even added outdoor lighting, ensuring the space remains inviting long after the sun sets.
Now, this Clacton-on-Sea bungalow boasts a warm, bright and cosy living room that works just as beautifully in mid-January as it does in July.
