Getting started
Quotes, coverage & showroom visits
Which areas does Spectrum Glazing cover?
We’re based in Brightlingsea and work with homeowners across Essex, including Colchester, Clacton-on-Sea, Chelmsford, Wivenhoe, Witham, Maldon and surrounding towns. We also have information for customers in Ipswich. Check our areas covered or send us your postcode to confirm we can help.
How do I get a quotation?
Send us an enquiry, call 01206 258056 or arrange a showroom visit. Tell us what you’re considering and where the property is. Photographs and approximate sizes are useful for an initial discussion; the final specification and measurements are confirmed through a survey.
Can I visit your showroom before deciding?
Yes. Our showroom is at 18 High Street, Brightlingsea, Colchester, Essex CO7 0AE. You can compare displays, colours and hardware and talk through your ideas. Request a showroom visit so we can confirm a suitable time. Check current opening hours and any particular display before travelling.
Do I need exact measurements to get started?
No. Rough sizes, photographs or plans can help us understand your project. You don’t need to have made every design decision before contacting us. Survey measurements are used to confirm the order.
Can I see examples of your work?
Yes. Our installation projects show windows, doors, conservatories and extensions in real homes. They’re a useful starting point for colours, layouts and ideas to discuss with us.
Windows
Styles, glass & finishes
What window styles can I choose from?
Our range includes uPVC and aluminium windows, flush sash and timber-effect designs, and sliding sash windows. The right choice depends on the look of your home, how you want the windows to open and your budget. Compare window options.
What is the difference between flush sash and sliding sash windows?
A flush sash window has an opening section that sits level with the outer frame when closed. A sliding sash window opens by sliding its sashes vertically. They create different appearances and opening arrangements. Explore flush sash windows and sliding sash windows.
Should I choose uPVC or aluminium windows?
Compare the frame appearance, available colours, opening sizes and specification as well as the price. uPVC offers a wide range of styles, including timber-effect finishes. Aluminium is often chosen for slimmer-looking frames and contemporary designs. We can help compare suitable systems for your property.
Can I choose different colours inside and outside?
Many systems offer different internal and external finishes, but the combinations depend on the product. Tell us the look you want for each side and we’ll confirm available colours, textures and any effect on price or lead time. Physical samples are the best way to check a finish.
Can I choose double glazing, triple glazing or privacy glass?
Glazing choices depend on the window or door system. We can discuss suitable double or triple glazing and glass for privacy, safety or other requirements. Compare the specification of the complete product, rather than the number of panes alone. Explore privacy and obscure glass.
Doors
Front doors, bifolds & sliding doors
Which types of door do you offer?
We offer composite and aluminium entrance doors, French doors, bifolding and sliding doors, and internal glazed doors. You can compare materials, designs, glazing and hardware on our doors page.
What is the difference between bifold and sliding doors?
Bifold panels fold together to open up the space, so their stacking position and clearance matter. Sliding panels move along tracks and don’t swing into the room or garden. The available opening depends on the panel and track arrangement. We’ll help you compare the layouts for your opening.
Can I customise my front door?
Yes. Depending on the range, you can choose the door design, colour, glass and hardware, with sidelights or a toplight where suitable. Explore front door options and use the product designers to share a starting point with us.
Are the online visualisers an exact specification or quotation?
No. They help you explore layouts, colours and hardware. Screen colours, proportions and illustrations are approximate. We confirm available combinations, dimensions, performance and price in your written quotation and survey.
Conservatories & roofs
New rooms, replacement roofs & extensions
Can you replace the roof on my existing conservatory?
We offer conservatory roof replacement options, including glass, tiled and hybrid systems. The existing frames, structure, dimensions and condition need assessing before recommending a roof. Explore replacement roofs.
How do I choose between a glass, tiled or hybrid roof?
Think about how you use the room, the daylight you want and the look of the roof. Glass retains an open, glazed feel; tiled roofs create a more enclosed ceiling; hybrid designs combine solid areas with glazing. We’ll discuss suitable options for your existing room or new build.
Can you help with a new conservatory, orangery or extension?
Yes. We work on new conservatories, orangeries and home extensions as well as refurbishment projects. Start with how you want to use the room and we can discuss the design and work involved. Explore conservatories, orangeries or hup! extensions.
Can my existing room be made more comfortable?
We can assess the roof, glazing, frames and wider design of the room and discuss improvements. Comfort depends on factors such as its orientation, shading, ventilation and heating as well as the products selected. We’ll recommend a specification for your room rather than promise one solution suits every property.
Installation & aftercare
Survey, timescales & support
What happens after I accept a quotation?
We confirm the agreed scope and arrange the next steps, including the survey and final specification where required. Product choices and dimensions need to be agreed before manufacture. We’ll explain the ordering and installation process for your project.
How long will my installation take?
It depends on the products, quantities, access and any building work involved. Manufacturing lead time is separate from the time spent installing at your home. Ask us for the current expected schedule for your particular quotation.
How should I prepare for installation?
Before the agreed date, we’ll explain access and preparation requirements. It helps to clear the immediate working area and move fragile items away. Ask the team about blinds, curtains, furniture and any particular access concerns so the arrangements are clear.
What guarantee will I receive?
Guarantee terms depend on the products and work in your quotation. Product warranties, installation cover and any insurance-backed protection can have different terms and exclusions. Ask us to explain the written cover for your order and keep those documents with your installation paperwork.
How do I look after my new windows and doors?
Follow the care instructions for your particular frames, glass, seals and hardware. Avoid abrasive cleaners and don’t force a stiff mechanism. If you’re unsure about cleaning, adjustment or lubrication, contact us for the appropriate guidance.
How do I report a problem after installation?
Contact our team with your name, installation address, a description of the issue and photographs if available. We’ll review the details and explain the next steps.
Quotes & payment
Understanding your quotation
What affects the price of replacement windows or doors?
The system, size, number of items, colours, glazing, opening arrangements and hardware all affect the price, along with access and the installation work required. A tailored quotation is more useful than a single headline price for a different specification.
What should I check in my quotation?
Check the product names, sizes, colours inside and outside, glazing, opening arrangements and hardware. Also check the installation scope, any building or finishing work, what is excluded, the payment schedule and guarantee details. Ask us to clarify anything before you approve the order.
Do you offer finance?
Ask our team about the finance options currently available for your project. Availability, eligibility and terms are confirmed during the quotation process. Visit our finance information page for details.
When are payments due?
Your quotation and order documents set out the deposit and payment schedule for your project. Check these before placing an order and ask us to explain any stage you’re unsure about.
