The project story
Modern Flat Roof Extension Transforming a Multi-Level Garden
This recent project by Spectrum Glazing demonstrates how a well-designed flat roof extension can completely transform a home, even when working with a compact or multi-level garden.
The homeowners wanted to improve their living space and create a brighter, more open layout. Our team designed and installed a Supalite flat roof extension that fits perfectly within the lower garden area while blending seamlessly with the existing property.
By removing the old external house window and door, we were able to open up the rear of the property and create a stunning open-plan kitchen and dining room extension, giving the home a much more spacious and functional layout.
Extension Features
This project included a complete installation by the Spectrum Glazing team, featuring:
- Supalite flat roof extension system
- S1 roof lantern to maximise natural light
- Sliding patio doors connecting the home to the garden
- Removal of the existing external window and door
- Creation of a new open-plan kitchen dining space
- Fully plastered internal finish
- Electrics installed throughout
The S1 roof lantern plays a key role in the design, flooding the new room with natural daylight and helping the space feel bright, open and modern.
Smart Extension Design for Smaller Gardens
Not every property has a large garden, but this project proves that a home extension can still work beautifully in smaller or split-level gardens.
The extension footprint was carefully designed to sit neatly within the lower garden space while maintaining access and usability of the outdoor area. Combined with large sliding patio doors, the room now feels connected to the garden while providing a stylish indoor living area.
This type of flat roof extension with roof lantern is a popular choice for homeowners who want a modern look while maximising light and space.
The Result: A Brighter Open-Plan Living Space
The completed extension has completely transformed the rear of the home, providing:
- A modern open-plan kitchen dining room
- Improved natural light throughout the space
- Better connection between the home and garden
- A practical extension solution for a compact multi-level garden
With the internal space fully plastered and electrics installed throughout, the room was ready for the homeowners to complete their interior design and enjoy their new living area.
