When this young family in Colchester set out to create their dream home, we were thrilled to be part of their renovation adventure! They were already doing an amazing job of updating their space, but they wanted something extra to make their home truly special. The goal? To extend their living area and design a stunning new kitchen and dining hub that would be perfect for hosting friends and family.
After chatting with them about their vision, we all agreed on one thing – an Orangery-style conservatory was the perfect solution. With its elegant design and cosy vibe, this orangery would not only add value to their property but also create that warm, inviting space they'd been dreaming of. We added an internal lighting pelmet to bring an extra dash of cosiness and charm, perfect for those relaxed family dinners or lively evenings entertaining guests.
Taking on a project like this requires great attention to detail, and we didn’t cut any corners. Since this was a brand-new build, it all began with clearing the area and digging footings 700mm deep to provide a strong, sturdy base for the structure.
For privacy and aesthetics, we built a full-height brick wall along the boundary side and included a charming dwarf wall on the opposite side. To flood the orangery with natural light, we added a set of beautiful French doors at the front, paired with full-height sidelights and large windows on the side. A subtle twist to the existing home was resizing one window by making it smaller, then bricking it up and finishing it with plasterwork inside.
The standout feature of this Colchester orangery has to be the Ultraframe Classic glass roof. Not only does it look sleek and modern, but it also allows an abundance of light to pour into the space. The roof was fitted with Ambi Blue Sunshade glass panels, which boast 82% heat reflection. Translation? You'll stay cool in the summer while still enjoying those picture-perfect sky views.
To create a warm, cosy feel, we incorporated a lighting pelmet surround. It’s a stylish yet practical addition that really transforms the space during the evenings. And here’s the fun part – the family is particularly handy! The homeowner, an electrician, installed all the sockets, downlighters and outdoor lights himself, adding a very personal touch to the project.
No bespoke conservatory project is complete without using the best materials, and we made sure of that. For this orangery in Colchester, we used sleek Linear smooth white double-glazed window frames that tied in seamlessly with the home's aesthetic. The Ultraframe Classic glass roof not only brought in natural light but also added unmatched energy efficiency with its low iron, A-rated glass in the side frames.
And of course, the Ambi Blue Sunshade roof glass was the cherry on top. With its self-cleaning properties and excellent heat reflection, maintaining this elegant orangery will be as easy as enjoying a fresh cup of coffee in it!
Creating this beautiful orangery for a Colchester family reminded us why we love what we do. Helping homeowners bring their visions to life while adding value to their property is what we're all about.
