The brief
James and his wife wanted their ground floor to work better for a family with three children. The small, older conservatory was rarely used, and separate downstairs rooms kept family activities apart.
The design
Several rooms were connected and the conservatory footprint enlarged. The new layout includes a kitchen-living space and utility room. A large roof lantern lights the lounge area, with sliding doors on two sides providing garden access.
The result
The family now spends much of its time together in the open-plan room, from cooking and homework to play.
